US Web Usage and Traffic in December, 2003
Story:
Nielsen/NetRatings and comScore Media Metrix have released figures on US Internet users for December of last year.
The average US web user logged 31 sessions from home and 63 sessions from work, and visited only 55 different domains from home and 99 different domains from work. The linked article provides a long list of top sites and the number of visitors.
Analysis:
One item of interest in these numbers is the total number of domains visited. This number has actually increased in recent years; webmasters had voiced concerns that people were going to fewer and fewer sites (this being bad news for small business websites). However, this may have only been due to the huge influx of new users in the dot com years; these new users have grown more confident, and are venturing beyond the large portal sites.
